JEFF and dande BAGBY

One of the most awarded professional brewers in the world, Jeff Bagby left his last key position as Director of Brewery Operations at Pizza Port at the end of 2011. In his last three years at the helm of the iconic Carlsbad location, Jeff scored the highest honor possible three years running at the Great American Beer Festival, awarded the brewery and brewer of the year awards in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Upon his departure from Pizza Port, Jeff and his wife Dande scouted real estate and finalized business planning for what would eventually become Bagby Beer Company. Jeff has also worked as a brewer for Stone Brewing and Oggi's, and is a native San Diegan - only leaving Southern California to complete his higher education at UCSB. Jeff is passionate about creating excellent, true-to-style, drinkable beers. He is also responsible for the cocktail and guest beer programs here at Bagby.

Dande's attention to detail and commitment to excellence have become a large part of the foundation of Bagby. She boasts a keen eye for design, graphic design, color and layout, and is responsible for the aesthetic of the building and its overall look and feel. Beyond the design aspects of Bagby, Dande also manages the oversight of daily business operations and is the entirety of Bagby's "marketing department".

She has a bachelors degree in Biology from CSUSM, a background in zoology, and business management experience through her long tenure at a local Fortune 300 company. It wasn't until she met Jeff in 2005 that they began to develop the concept of Bagby Beer Company, and they spent nearly a decade dreaming of opening their own brewpub.  Like Jeff, Dande is a native San Diegan. They live in North County with their four energetic, sometimes noisy beagles (Murphy, Oliver, Delilah, and English) and their sneaky cat, Harvey.

Justin brings an incredible wealth of knowledge from his years of experience in hospitality, beer and wine to the Bagby team. His unwavering commitment to and passion for all things craft and well-made, as well as his calm, focused, and direct demeanor make him an incredible part of everything Bagby. Besides leading the FOH teams, he is our in-house wine buyer, and works closely with Jeff when it comes to guest beers, cocktails, and events.

A long-time Oceanside resident, Chef Robert found his way to Bagby after many years in professional kitchens, including The Gambling Cowboy and La Costa Resort and Spa. Robert's creative vision is clear: he’s passionate about creating beauty in simplicity, and in elevating humble ingredients to outstanding heights.

Robert’s dedication to a plant-based lifestyle has sparked the emphasis on plant-based offerings you’ll find on our menu. He also launched our now-famous weekly vegan dinner specials, as well as the inspiration for our tremendously successful plant-based pairing dinner, “Veneration” held in the fall of 2018.

After many years as a Service Manager at Claim Jumper, Claire joined the Bagby team just before opening in 2014 and quickly ascended to the position of Assistant Hospitality Manager. She promptly rose to the Executive level, where she is an essential contributor to everything from human resources to private events. She is thorough, detailed, and a genuine team player, who is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the Bagby vision is executed. Claire and her two awesome kids live in Oceanside with their dog, Chloe, and their three cats.

Brandon has been a critical part of the entire Bagby vision since well before opening. No one embodies a more “can-do” attitude than Brandon (aka “Chi-chi”). Brandon takes the lead in the brewery, managing all things beer. In his past life, Brandon was a talented professional photographer and the front man for a punk band. He lives in Oceanside with his wife and their two adorable pups, Elliot and Gordon.
